Does the first Iron Man movie make sense?

The more times I watch Iron Man, the more confused I get about the plot. Specifically, what EXACTLY is Obadiah Stane’s plan?

Iron Man 3 movie review

Iron Man 3 wasn’t quite what I thought it was going to be, but it was still a good time at the movies.

While we’ll see Iron Man again in the Avengers sequels, this will be the final solo adventure for the Armored Avenger. I guess I thought IM3 would be more in the vein of Dark Knight Rises, but this movie was a bit more fun and not nearly as dark. Even when Tony is at his lowest, he’s never really alone… not that any of his super powered buddies show up. (This movie makes you wonder why he doesn’t call in Captain America or SHIELD about a dozen times.)

This movie has impressive scope, action (in ways I didn’t see coming from characters/actors I didn’t think were this bad ass capable), visual effects and a story that’ll keep you in your seat. I wouldn’t recommend jumping in if you missed the first two installments, but Iron Man 3 isn’t just a genre flick – it’s a quality action movie. I give it an 8 out of 10.

If you haven’t seen the movie yet, you’ll want to stop ready now. Otherwise, meet me after the jump for more discussion! Read the rest of this entry

A Perfect Murder movie review

Yep, I’m digging into the archives and taking a look at 1998’s A Perfect Murder, which is a remake of Dial M for Murder, which is an adaptation of the play of the same name.

I’m just going to assume you’ve already seen this movie, so I’m not going to hold any details back – so if you read on, I’m not only going to ruin A Perfect Murder for you (well, probably not anymore than the trailer already does), but also Dial M for Murder.

Iron Man 2 Movie Review

iron man 2Given that Iron Man 2 is coming to DVD and Blu Ray on September 28, I thought it was as good a time as any to take a critical look at Robert Downey Jr. as the Armored Avenger.  Be warned:  the following review contains spoilers (yeah, spoilers for a movie that made $128,122,480 in its opening weekend at 4,380 theaters) and is a giant ‘whatever’ fest.  But read on…

You can’t talk about Iron Man without gushing over its star, so let me get that out-of-the-way.  Robert Downey Jr. is the man, and he’s great in the Iron Man movies; whatever you think about the Iron Man films, you can’t deny that.  The man has talent, and I can’t think of another instance where an actor had the opportunity to play a character he had so much in common with.  Maybe the movie version is a bit sillier than the comic book version, but it works.
