Catwoman movie review

2004’s Catwoman is a mess of pandering, lazy and sloppy writing that the filmmakers hoped would be covered over by Halle Berry’s beauty.  SPOILER ALERT:  it is not.  Read the rest of this entry

Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron movie review

I was entertained by Avengers: Age of Ultron, but I also have to rip it to shreds.  There’s a lot to like, but honestly, it’s a bladder punishing two hours and twenty minutes that carries too much bloat.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For movie review

Film noir is back in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  They didn’t forget the gratuitous violence, striking images or that whole ‘this is in color, this is in black and white’ stylization thing they do, either.  If you’re up for this kinda ride, join me after the jump! Read the rest of this entry

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (movie review)

I finally got around to seeing Captain America: The Winter Soldier this weekend and like The First Avenger, it exceeded my expectations. It’s at 89% at Rotten Tomatoes, but how does this movie work for the hardcore, casual and first time viewer? Let’s dig in! Read the rest of this entry

Clark Gregg is in The Usual Suspects

Agent Phil Coulson, the bad ass who makes the Marvel Movie and TV Universe go round, is in The Usual Suspects, one of the best movies ever. It’s only for a minute, when the cop is on the phone trying to a translator that knows Hungarian, but that’s him on the left, as noticed by Dr. Girlfriend.

An awesome movie just got awesome-er!

Captain America: The First Avenger – a video refresher course before you see The Winter Soldier

Sure, I wrote a review of Captain America: The First Avenger when it first came out, and I could just refer everybody back to there, but what fun is that?  This is a Winter Soldier celebration!

Captain America Patriot Cologne is a thing that exists

Captain-America-Patriot-Cologne-box

It’s MY attack plan.

Some folks might want to be Captain America, but Dr. Girlfriend realized I want to smell like him.

She’s not wrong.

I’m sure you’re wondering:  What does a patriot smell like? Read the rest of this entry

It's a Captain America: The Winter Soldier celebration here at CJ!

I love me some Captain America, and I couldn’t be more delighted that another flick is dropping starring Chris Evans as the Star Spangled Avenger. I’m not completely in love with the way they’re writing him (one second, it seems like the Steve Rogers I know, but the next second, he’s firing automatic rifles and hurling people to their death), but I’m pleased with the way Evans is portraying the roll. Also, I’m a big Winter Soldier fan, and I’m curious to see the movie’s take on it. Unlike before Captain America: The First Avenger, my expectations are dialed up to eleven: the trailer gives the impression that the movie is interesting, and we’ve already seen what most of the players can do with their characters, and, as history has shown us, the second movie of a series is often the best one (Matrix trilogy aside), so all signs point to a good movie.

We’ll have to wait and see…

Oh, the celebration part – I almost forgot. Well, we should have some Captain America-centric posts going for the rest of the week, and maybe beyond. Stay tuned for more stuff!

Superman vs The Elite movie review (Mixers and Movie Reviews)

This video review is an outtake from our Man of Steel episode.

Here, we’re jawing about Superman vs The EliteI never really thought about it before, but this movie is sorta the anti Man of Steel.  In Superman vs The Elite, the Last Son of Krypton gets through a battle in traditional Superman fashion…  that is, he doesn’t do what The Man of Tomorrow does at the end of Man of Steel. Kick Ass 2 movie review

This is one of those trailers that includes several lines that don’t actually appear in the movie.

I finally got around to seeing Kick Ass 2 and while I wasn’t necessarily disappointed, the movie is far from perfect and certainly lacks the charm of the first installment.

The Wolverine (movie review)

the-wolverineHugh Jackman (Huge Jacked Man) returns as The Wolverine in FOX’s latest X-Men installment designed to make hardcore comic book fans nuts and still please me.

I’ve decided that I need to quickly address this issue: you see, I’ve heard from a lot of people that they didn’t like X-Men Origins: Wolverine because the story differed from the comic book, but I can’t accept that. I thought the flick was a good time, but critics didn’t agree. If you glance through its Rotten Tomatoes page, you’ll see quotes like, “I haven’t been this disappointed by a film since the new Indiana Jones,” or “You’re going to be really underwhelmed” or such thought-provoking blurbs as “I was definitely disappointed.” Anyway, critics and dorks agreed, Origins sucked – well, I didn’t agree, but there you go. For me, Origins wasn’t anything spectacular (well, the helicopter scene was spectacular), but it was a good time at the movies and I simply love Jackman as Wolverine. He’s perfect in the role and he has to share even less of the screen this time around, which may be why fans and critics alike seem to prefer The Wolverine to Origins. But in my view, they’re both fine, so if you hated Origins, this might not be the review for you. Read the rest of this entry
