Interesting facts about the song “Daddy issues”.
In a fairly popular video hosting, she scored more than thirty-six million views. It can be literally translated into Russian in different ways: as disagreements with the father or problems with the father. According to the scientific version, it has the name of the Electra complex. What is the meaning of this name? Electra is a vivid example of a girl left without a father because of her mother in mythology. Perhaps some of you have heard about the Oedipus complex, which was brought out by Sigmund Freud. This name came from mythology and meant attraction to the parent of the opposite sex. From an early age, Elektra lived without a father, he was constantly on campaigns, then he besieged Troy, then something else, in short, he was very busy. His wife was very offended by him: he did not appear at home for 10 years, and, on top of everything else, he brought a concubine, whom he loved very much. But it was still nothing compared to that he killed her husband and child. This person was quite bloodthirsty.
Clytemnestra, in order to take revenge on him, entered into sexual relations with his cousin. When Agamemnon returned from the campaign and went to the bathhouse, instead of giving a towel, his wife threw it over his head, while the lover, who was behind the deceived husband, killed him with a knife in the back.
Elektra missed her father very much, as she had not seen her for a long time. Therefore, after he was killed, she got angry. Clytemnestra and her lover bloodthirstyly decided to kill their brother, which finally brought Electra out. She saved his life, but the killers were very angry with her.
Sophocles wrote that during the reign of her stepfather, Electra was subjected to constant mockery, but she tried her best not to let herself be offended. Her stepfather and wife were tired of quarreling and swearing with her, so they sent her to prison. The story ends with the saved brother and Elektra killing Agamemnon’s wife and stepfather.
The meaning of the song “Daddy issues”.
There is a lot to think about in this song: “fathers and sons” – the nature of the problems is different, besides, men and women perceive them in almost opposite projections: the relationship of a girl with her father in the future is reflected in the relationship with a partner. But in order to change herself, she needs an example, but, based on the text, alas, there is none.
The behavior of the guy and his character is explained by his relationship with his father. If dad is rude to his son because of hatred for him, then this will develop many complexes and injuries in the boy in the future. It is quite another thing when he loves his son and is strict with him, this will help the guy become a real man in the future.
From the line “It’s crazy what you do for fame” (it’s amazing what you do for popularity) – these are the words of the guy. You can guess that he is ready to sacrifice everything for the sake of glory. He will do everything, even trample anyone into the dirt, so as not to spoil the opinion of society about his own person.
This once again proves how rude and cruel the father was towards his son. This is not openly sung in the song. That’s just from the line “You know what your mama went through” (You know what your mother went through), which the narrator says to himself, it is clear that the guy had serious disagreements in the family. They ruined his health on a mental level.
The song talks about growing up without a father, especially for young girls who are faced with such an unpleasant situation, and is a kind of support.
“Daddy Issues” Lyrics by The Neighbourhood
Take you like a drug
I taste you on my tongue
You ask me what I’m thinking about
I tell you that I’m thinking about
Whatever you’re thinking about
Tell me something that I won’t forget
And you might have to tell me again
It’s crazy what you do for a friend
Go ahead and cry little girl
Nobody does it like you do
I know how much it matters to you
I know that you got daddy issues
And if you were my little girl
I’d do whatever I could do
I’d run away and hide with you
I love that you got daddy issues
And I do too
I tried to write your name in the rain
But the rain never came
So I made with the sun
The shade always comes at the worst time
You ask me what I’m thinking about
I’ll tell you that I’m thinking about
Whatever you’re thinking about
Tell me something that I’ll forget
And you might have to tell me again
It’s crazy what you’ll do for a friend
Go ahead and cry little girl
Nobody does it like you do
I know how much it matters to you
I know that you got daddy issues
And if you were my little girl
I’d do whatever I could do
I love it when I’m high with you
I love that you got daddy issues
And I do too
I keep on trying to let you go
I’m dying to let you know
How I’m getting on
I didn’t cry when you left at first
But now that you’re dead it hurts
This time I gotta know
Where did my daddy go ?
I’m not entirely here
Half of me has disappeared
Go ahead and cry little boy
You know that your daddy did too
You know what your mama went through
You gotta let it out soon , just let it out
Go ahead and cry little girl
Nobody does it like you do
I know how much it matters to you
I know that you got daddy issues
And if you were my little girl
I’d do whatever I could do
I’d run away and hide with you
I love that you got daddy issues
And I do too
And if you were my little girl
I’d do whatever I could do
I’d run away and hide with you
I love that you got daddy issues
And I do too
