In 1978, director John Carpenter presented Halloween starring Jamie Lee Curtis. The film became a cult horror film with a recognizable soundtrack, and was even added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, noting its cultural and aesthetic significance.

Not surprisingly, the horror had a sequel – from 1981 to 2009, different filmmakers released their own versions of slasher, but all these films were extremely unsuccessful, now no one will remember them.

Director David Gordon Green, together with the studio Blumhouse Productions, ignored all the sequels of the past years (they were, by the way, as many as 9) and released its sequel to the story of 1978, with the production support of John Carpenter himself. So in 2018 there was a movie with a simple title “Halloween” (Halloween) – in it, the audience saw the heroine Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis returned to her role) 40 years after the bloody massacre, which was arranged by a maniacal killer named Michael Myers. The psychopath has reappeared in the town of Haddonfield, and this time Laurie is ready to meet him – to fight the madman in disguise, she is helped by her daughter and granddaughter.

“Halloween Kills” 2021 is a direct sequel to the movie released in 2018. The actions of the picture take place on the same night when Laurie managed to lure Michael Myers into a fire trap, where the killer was supposed to burn to the ground. But, as it turned out, getting rid of the maniac is not so easy. Michael got out and went on the hunt for new victims. Everyone who goes outside can get stabbed, unsafe even in private homes – Myers hides in the closet while frightened couples lock the front doors. Upon learning that the killer was on the loose, Haddonfield residents panicked. Volunteer squads have sprung up among them and set out to hunt for Michael.

In “Halloween Kills,” David Gordon Green decided to turn to flashbacks to 1978 to tell the story of the cop, and also to recall Dr. Sam Loomis, who first spotted the “original evil” in Michael Myers. There are a couple other surprises for fans of the original movie. For example, the characters of Tommy Doyle and Lindsay Wallace will appear in the movie – these are the grown-up children who were babysat by Laurie Strode.

For those who saw the old movie quite a while ago, the director briefly recalls key events, emphasizing that at the age of six, when Michael Myers killed his own sister, he was already evil incarnate.

It seems that the story of the killer is really starting to gain mystical momentum – otherwise you can’t explain how Myers manages to survive the shots, blows and fire trap. For the creators of the horror film, this is a very convenient clue, thanks to which the story has been extended for one more movie – Halloween Ends is scheduled to premiere in 2022.

Whether Michael Myers’ story will ever end is still unknown – as well as whether he will remain human or turn into a super being. Right now, all we can do is watch as the criminal stalks his victims. If you liked the 2018 movie, then “Halloween Kills” can also fascinate you – it was filmed in the same spirit. The only difference is that the new picture contains much more bloody scenes and disfigured bodies.

But the frightening episodes in the movie are quite few, only the scenes with the angry mob, who are eager for a momentary reprisal against the killer, which causes the city to plunge into chaos, are truly frightening.

Direct sequel to the previous movie; flashbacks and characters from 1978; mob rage and chaos in the city

Michael Myers becomes an unkillable mystical entity

“Halloween Kills” is a bloody sequel to the 2018 film. This is just a warm-up before the final battle with a psychopath hiding his face behind a mask.
