The film “Furious 9: The Unstoppable Saga” could not get on the big screens for a long time, its premiere was postponed several times. First due to the release of the spin-off “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw), and then because of the situation with the pandemic, which significantly affected cinemas – in the United States they were closed much longer than we have.

With a new release date set, the final trailer was released with a soulful monologue by Vin Diesel that described the devastation after a tough year that literally everyone knows. The actor recalled that the cinema remains for all of us a place where you can escape and where you can have fun. “Nothing compares to the moment when the lights go out and the projector starts up. We believe,” says Vin Diesel. Everything is so, it’s hard to disagree with this, but it’s still hard to believe in the events from the new Fast and the Furious, this is a new level of high-speed fiction.

Contrary to skepticism, it should be noted that the media franchise is so profitable and popular that its creators (including director Justin Lin) can afford outright absurdity – the main thing for them is not logic, not realism, and not acting at all. It’s more important to surprise your potential audience, who knows that each new film will be even crazier and more spectacular. In addition, when a decent number of characters from the nine previous parts have accumulated in stock, you can organize a real fan service – resurrect dead heroes, surprise cameos and appeal to nostalgia (the character of the late Paul Walker will not be forgotten here either).

We must also remember that the first film from the franchise turned twenty this year. During this time, not only the technical capabilities of film production have changed, but also the genre direction of Fast and the Furious – from street racers and bandits, the heroes have turned into a powerful team that competes with special agents and considers it their duty to save the whole world.

By the way, about the first film – in it Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) talks about the death of his father, which occurred during the races. Fast & Furious 9 revisits these events in a flashback, revealing that Dominic had a brother Jacob (John Cena) all along. After the death of his parent, he left, breaking all ties, and many years later he proved himself: his brother became a real villain with the skills of a special agent. Jacob plans to get the Ares project, which can control any computer system. All he has to do is find the activation key, but his plans are thwarted when Dominic steps in.

It’s hard to say what’s funnier here – the Ares system, which looks like a broken toy, or a brother who suddenly appeared, a family connection with which can be established by the presence of a cross around his neck. Although no, there are moments in the film and more fun.

For example, flying into outer space in a car with a rocket engine (and I want to say that this is a joke, but no). Compared to this, chasing through a minefield and fighting in moving cars will turn out to be downright documentary footage from the lives of experienced rescuers working anywhere in the world (filming took place in Tokyo, London and Tbilisi).

It seems that the writers are beginning to understand what exactly the audience will criticize for Fast and Furious 9. So they laugh it off in advance using Roman Pierce (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej Parker (Chris Bridges). The heroes talk about their own invulnerability and (as if mockingly) say that they will be fine as long as the laws of physics apply.

But we know that this franchise has its own laws of physics, as well as the stages of character development. For example, Dominic and his brother who showed up show such agility and strength that closer to the final it begins to seem that the Toretto family came here from the Marvel universe.

Everything that happens is so rampant that in the end we have to admit that the entertainment and escape from the real world, which Vin Diesel talked about in the trailer, goes with a bang. At least it won’t be boring.

Fast & Furious 9: The Unstoppable Saga can afford to go beyond any genre, as well as make cars fly and magnetize, not to mention the simpler things – when the characters are incredibly lucky and they are at the right time in the right place. All this is impossible to take seriously, so you should just have fun during the session. Or prudently protect yourself from viewing.

Pluses: scale of races; writers jokes about their own plot; the action takes place around the world Cons: overkill with the physical capabilities of the characters, which now resemble Marvel characters; outer space Conclusion:

the new “Fast and the Furious” is even crazier than the previous films, but it copes with the task of entertaining the viewer.
