QUICK REVIEWS: The Departed (episode 22)

QUICK REVIEWS is back in action!  This time, I’m taking a look at The Departed, another action crime drama from Martin Scorsese.  Man, nobody does mob movies like Scorsese. The screenplay is by William Monahan (this is probably his most famous movie) and starring… well, everybody. The Departed stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga, Anthony Anderson and Alec Baldwin.  You think they got enough stars?  I bet a lot (half?) of that $90 million dollar budget went to salaries!  It’s not Scorsese’s best movie, but I’m a fan of The Departed.

That’s a good question.  What is Scorsese’s best movie?  Goodfellas?

Will Reading – principal photography wrap & thank you video

This video was filmed in the fall of 2016 on my old phone on the last day of photography for WILL READING as a way of saying thanks to all the people who made this movie a reality.

Confronting President Trump’s Muslim Ban

I’m old enough to remember when lying about an extramarital affair was grounds for impeachment.  These days, you can violate the constitution and collaborate with foreign saboteurs and we have to argue over whether a special prosecutor is needed.

I have high hopes for the 21st Century – let’s all get together and right the ship!

Will Reading is now available at film festivals and for reviews!

Will Reading – the movie is DONE!!! (updated #12)

Will Reading is a movie I started writing on May 30th of 2013.  The third draft of the script was finished in the spring of 2014 after which I started casting and other pre  production tasks.  We had a table read in August of 2014 and went into full production mode, which lasted for… I dunno, until around June 2015 and everything I shot after that was called post production pickups.  I had already started editing some of the more challenging sequences while we were shooting, but editing didn’t begin in earnest until after shooting ended and really picked up steam in January of 2016.

And now it’s done.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again:  I’m so very grateful and proud of everyone that worked on the movie and that the result we achieved have exceeded my wildest expectations!

If you check out the Will Reading link, you can follow along on my production diary.

Will Reading – Trailer #2 (updated #11)

Here’s the second (and presumably final) trailer for our movie, Will Reading.   I probably have another two weeks of post production to go and then the movie will finally be one hundred percent complete!   This is a journey that stretches back to 2013 for me, and I can scarcely describe how I feel, so I won’t try.  I will say that I’m very grateful and proud of everyone that worked on the movie and that the result we’ve achieved exceeds my wildest expectations!

The Overnight (Quick Reviews Spoiler Discussion 4)

Here’s the fourth Spoiler Discussion from Quick Reviews, this time, tacking The Overnight.  This little indie stars Taylor Schilling, Adam Scott, Jason Schwartzman and Judith Godreche and I don’t so much review the flick as a whole as I do explain why it didn’t really work for me.  And yet, it’s still a decent flick.  Read the rest of this entry

Gun Control (Quick Reviews ep 9)

I’ve never said anything about gun control before.  I don’t know why it took the events in Orlando to shake me out of my apathy or whatever it was, but I’m awake now.  Improving gun control is important to me in a way it’s never been before.  Today’s episode explains what I think we should do about it.  I hope you’ll consider getting involved!
