Jason Bourne (Quick Review)
Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne to rescue the franchise. Mission Accomplished…?
Have you seen a Bourne movie before? They’re fun, the last action set piece is usually an excellent car chase and this latest installment is no exception. But, if you didn’t like the franchise before, this movie isn’t going to bring you into the fold.
Visuals/Directing – 7 out of 10
This is the absolute maximum of shaky cam Paul Greengrass that I can handle. I saw it on a fairly large screen, so I imagine it might be hard to tell what’s happening when you get this on home media when the quick cuts and fists are flying. Not my favorite Bourne car chase, but still a good one.
Story – 6.5 out of 10
The story is… fine, just fine. I don’t recall any gaping plot holes, but it’s super predictable. There’s no mysteries here, and I was enjoying the motorcycle sequence until they basically tell you how it’s going to end and then you have to sit there and wait for 5 minutes until it does.
Acting/Characters – 7
The thing that keeps me coming back is Matt Damon as Jason Bourne (and the car chases). I don’t know why I find him so compelling in this role, but I just do. Tommy Lee Jones does his best with a flat character, but Alicia Vikander has some interesting stuff to work with.
Overall, that puts me at a 6.8 out of 10. I’d say fans of action will probably enjoy this movie, but everybody else should steer clear.
Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
