Ranking all 25 Episodes of The Simpsons Season 7

For me, episodes of The Simpsons Season 7 fall into two categories:  classic or not.  There ain’t no third direction.

CLASSICS:

“Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part Two)”
I prefer this episode to the opening chapter in this saga.  I also point to this “Who Shot JR?” parody of a good example of how to do parody – I’m afraid Family Guys is going to convince the world that “parody” just means reading from someone else’s script!  (See their terrible Star Wars specials for examples of this.)
QUOTE:  “Mr. Burns was admitted to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was then transferred to a better hospital where his condition was upgraded to ‘alive.’”

“Radioactive Man”
I LOVE THIS EPISODE!  So many amazing quotes!
“My eyes!  The goggles do nothing!”
“I’m just Milhouse when he gets hurt!”

“Home Sweet Homediddly-Dum-Doodily”
I have an intense, almost undefinable love for the episodes that define how much the Simpsons love each other and they pride they take in their family unit.  Also, “…toilet paper hung in improper overhand fashion!”

“Bart Sells His Soul”
Amazing episode; there’s more to Bart than “Do the Bartman!”
QUOTE:  “Milhouse, give him back his soul, I’ve got work tomorrow!” – This entire scene is incredible.

“Lisa the Vegetarian”
This is the episode that shaped Lisa’s character in a new way for the rest of the series and began my own vegetarian thoughts.

“Treehouse of Horror VI”
Again, parody done well – “Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace” is a great short on its own.

“King-Size Homer”
Oh Homer, you and your scheming – will you ever learn?
QUOTE:”I just want to watch Honk If You’re Horny in peace!”

“Mother Simpson”
I love this episode; anytime they bring out the humanity in Homer and we see him vulnerable, I’m happy.  I reference this episode on the site all the time.

“Marge Be Not Proud”
Like “Bart Sells His Soul,” we get another complex episode about the characters and it’s a gem.

“Team Homer”
You’ve gotta love the Pin Pals!

“Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield”
Yet again, another classic episode about the characters – who they are, how they fit in the world.  This episode is Marge heavy and she’s not starting a business, so I’m on board!  It’s just cool to see Marge in a different light.

“Lisa the Iconoclast”
It’s an excellent mystery episode with a killer episode.
QUOTE:  “Alright, I’ll use it – but I’m not paying for it.”

“The Day the Violence Died”
I love it when they go to court.
QUOTES:  “Paint my chicken coop!”
“Maybe my dad did steal Itchy.  But so what? Animation is built on plagiarism.  If it weren’t for someone plagiarizing The Honeymooners we wouldn’t have The Flintstones.  If someone hadn’t ripped off Sergeant Bilko, there’d be no Top Cat.  Huckleberry Hound? Chief Wiggum? Yogi Bear? Ha! Andy Griffith. Edward G. Robinson.  Art Carney. Your Honor, you take away our right to steal ideas where are they gonna come from?”

“A Fish Called Selma”
You’ve gotta love it whenever one of Marge’s sisters gets married and any time Troy McClure shows up, it’s a good time.
QUOTE: “Sure baby, is that a problemo?”

“22 Short Films About Springfield”
Season 7, thy name is excellent parody.  There’s so much good stuff in here you just have to watch it.

“Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in “The Curse of the Flying Hellfish””
The mystery, the humanity, the bond between family and seeing somebody in a way you’d never imagined – it’s a great episode.

“Much Apu About Nothing”
A great Simpsons episode has compelling character stories and excellent jokes and this episode is the blueprint of that model.
QUOTE:  “Just say slavery.”  – “The Nie Mets are my favorite baseball squadron!”

“Summer of 4 Ft. 2”
Again, like many episodes in this season, you get to see Lisa in a different light.  Maybe it’s not her, but being a kid is about trying different things…  it’s an interesting Lisa experiment episode.  Also, you get to see how people’s perception of Lisa effects Bart, which is also fascinating.

NOT CLASSICS:

“Sideshow Bob’s Last Gleaming”
This might be the first of the Sideshow Bob duds.

“The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular”
Clip.  Show.  Damn you, FOX!

“Two Bad Neighbors”
This Dennis the Menace parody didn’t do it for me.

“Homer the Smithers”
It’s interesting to see another side of Mr. Burns… but I guess I didn’t find it that interesting.
QUOTE:  “Is that about my cube?”

“Bart the Fink”
Two good jokes in this episode, but otherwise, I’m not a big fan.
QUOTES:   “Oh, crap, I shouldn’t have said he was a customer. Oh, crap, I shouldn’t have said it was a secret. Oh, crap! I certainly shouldn’t have said it was illegal! [sighs] It’s too hot today.”
“I’m Rory Bellows, I tell you and I got a lot of corroborating evidence over here by the throttle!”

“Bart on the Road”
I like the relationship between Lisa and Homer in this episode, but that’s all.  I don’t have much else to say but meh.

“Homerpalooza”
Blah blah blah Smashing Pumpkins Peter Frampton whatever.
