MISSION ACCOMPLISHED (AGAIN): Bernie Williams’ #51 will be retired on Sunday, May 24th, 2015

The New York Yankees will officially retire Bernie Williams’ #51 on Sunday, May 24th, 2015.  It’s finally happening!  It’s official.

Thanks to everyone who signed the petition!  I’m sure this would have happened without sites and folks like us, but maybe we nudged things along.  I’ve particularly felt that since the Yankees’ 2009 championship, Bernie Williams accomplishments and contributions to the team have been overlooked/overshadowed by the myth of the Core Four.  Cool nickname, but a complete fallacy.  Bernie Williams (and excellent starting pitching) was a huge part of the Dynasty Era championships and as for 2009, there is no way the Yankees win without CC Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez.

I got off on a tangent there – this is time for celebration!  Bernie Williams is finally getting the honor he deserves.  See you on Sunday, May 24th, 2015!

  1. We all miss Bernie Williams! I can listen to his beautiful music but really miss seeing the gentleman out on the field and at bat.

  2. Can someone tell me if there is an earlier entry time on the day of Bernie’s number being retired? Or is it the usual 2 hours prior to start?
