Baffling Movie Trailers: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Mad Max: Fury Road, Tusk

Today on Baffling Movie Trailers: it’s the first teaser for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Kevin Smith’s new jam, Tusk. Let the snarking begin!

So… what does that guy think Katniss is doing there, dressed in a field uniform and armed with weapons? Does he think she’s there to give hair cuts? Maybe teach an archery class? And I guess the final chapter in all series has to be split into two movies now? I thought you were better than that, Hunger Games. Also… I’m kinda thinking there’s not gonna be a Hunger Games in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 so… there’s that.

I haven’t see a Mad Max movie since I was a kid, but I gotta tell ya, if Tina Turner isn’t in this movie, I probably don’t need to see it. I can’t be the only person who has no interest in a Mad Max reboot. I don’t remember Mad Max being that great to begin with – it’s the yellow franchise that just won’t go away. (Is it just me, or is everything in those movies yellow?) Also, if gas is the most precious commodity there is, why waste it on car chases? I suspect that we should have left the Mad Max franchise back in the 80s where it belongs.

From the guy who’s making Clerks 3 and retiring, we get Tusk, a movie inspired by a personal ad Smith read. This feels like another entry into the Red State binder and even though I enjoyed that, I have no ambition to see Tusk. I can’t imagine there’s a single surprise in this picture… it just feels like it’s a high concept Smith fell in love with… but I’m sure I’ll watch it eventually, at some distant date in the future when this flick makes it to the aftermarket. All I can do is hope the movie isn’t as one dimensional as the trailer makes it appear.
