Disney’s Tower of Terror (movie review)
I betcha didn’t know there was a Tower of Terror movie based off the Disney’s Hollywood Studios/California Adventure attraction of nearly the same name. (That’s The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror for the uninitiated.) The attraction itself takes a simple idea and makes it great, but basing a movie off a Disney Attraction has never worked out as far as I can recall. (I mean artistically, not financially!) The only thing more shocking than the fact that this movie stars Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst (other than it exists, I guess) is my overall impression of the movie.
It’s not terrible… It’s fine. It certainly won’t give you a bloody nose or an ulcer or anything like that if you watch the entire flick.
NOTE: ALL OF THE TRAILERS SEEM TO BE FAN MADE, BUT THIS’LL DO:
The Tower of Terror movie is a decent (if a bit obvious) little mystery. It plods along at times, but for the most part, the directing and acting are fine even if the overall screenplay and dialogue could have used a few more drafts. And look at young Kirsten Dunst – isn’t she cute? Before Spider-Man got all over her… yeah, I prefer this Kirsten Dunst. It’s fair to say that this sort of movie should be scary and it’s not – but then, it’s a movie for kids, so how scary could it be? I”m sure there are kids out there who thought this was scary enough.
Anyway… yeah. It’s fine – a solid 5 out of 10 from something that has no business being better than a 3, but there we are. You can watch the entire movie on YouTube if you dare.
