Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue (It Came From YouTube)
"This one’s straight off my DIEtunes playlist!"
Holy hell. (Literally.) Why does this exist? This new live stage show, Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue, debuted on February 8 of 2014, so it’s not for Halloween, and a second Beetlejuice movie is still a pipe dream, so.. what is the deal here? What were they thinking?!?
Frankly, I don’t know, and I don’t care. This is so bad it’s good. It’s so awful it’s wonderful. There’s a woman in a Cleopatra costume (who they’re only referring to as "Cleo" because that’s gangsta right there) rapping over "Sweet Dreams" – what more could you ask for? I really thought "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was gonna be "Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun…" Seems like a missed opportunity. And maybe "Welcome to the Jungle" should have been… I dunno… "Welcome to the Grundle?" I guess that doesn’t make sense, but then, neither does this whole show. I guess this show and "Feed My Frankenstein" are a match made in heaven.
My theory is that Universal Studios already had this set built and decided they had to have a live musical review show and just came up with a concept that satisfied the set as best they could. I guess Universal Studios owns all of these monster properties already, so there’s no licensing fees and Beetlejuice is the host because… I guess he’s the only monster that has the right personality. I guess.
Rapping Cleopatra. I can’t get over it. You can’t make this stuff up.
