Movies Coming Soon: it’s all sequels and franchises!

movie-postersUsing this magical tool called the internet, I’ve compiled a list of movies that are coming out over the next two or so years that are either sequels, franchises or both… and I say without any hesitation: this list will amaze you.
Keep in mind that ‘amaze’ is a relative term – it could be good or bad…

May 2014
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Blah, blah, blah – we all knew there were going to be a million of these as soon as we heard the reboot announcement. (Here’s my review of The Amazing Spider-Man)

Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return
So this must be based on the third Oz book, Ozma of Oz?  I guess.

Can’t really complain about this – there are like 30 Godzilla movies.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
Being a big comic book guy, I’m looking forward to this one!

This might be OK…  I dunno.  It’s telling a story I don’t really care to know, but maybe it’ll be done well – that’s my hope.

June 2014
How to Train Your Dragon 2
I still think this title sounds like a euphemism.

22 Jump Street
Like the previous flick, I still haven’t gotten around to seeing this one…

Transformers: Age of Extinction
Sigh.  I am so done with this franchise.  I know it’s a new beginning, but I’m waiting for the dvd release on this one

July 2014
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
I still haven’t seen the first one, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet…

Planes: Fire And Rescue
If it makes money, make a sequel – PERIOD!

August 2014
Guardians of the Galaxy
Great trailer – this one looks good!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Awful trailer!  This looks terrible!

The Expendables 3
They’re saying this is the last one… why?  (I mean besides the inevitable steroid induced heart attack this franchise will give Stallone?)

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
I really liked the first one, so my expectations are high here.

September 2014
The Maze Runner
I know this is based on a book – unless it flops, there will be ninety of these…

Dolphin Tale 2
I can’t even imagine what this movie is about.

October 2014
Paranormal Activity V
Lord help me.

November 2014
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1
Pumped to see how this ends, but I wasn’t completely thrilled with the way Catching Fire ended – I just didn’t give a shiz that Pita was missing.

Horrible Bosses 2
I had no idea anybody saw the first one.  Baffling.

December 2014
The Hobbit: There and Back Again (Renamed Battle of Five Armies)
Really looking forward to seeing the Battle of Five Armies on screen!

Night At The Museum 3
God needs to strike Ben Stiller down…  unless that’ll make him more powerful than I can possibly imagine…  OK, nevermind, let’s play it safe.

Hot Tub Time Machine 2
I did see the first one and I have no idea why anyone involved wanted to make this sequel… besides the paycheck, that is.

Exodus: Gods and Kings
Christian Bale stars as Moses in director Ridley Scott’s Biblical epic based on the Book of Exodus.

January 2015
Taken 3
I had no idea there was a taken 2.

February 2015
Spongebob Squarepants 2
When did the first one happen?

March 2015
Friday the 13th
I have no idea if this a  sequel, reboot or what, but either way, sigh.

April 2015
Fast and Furious 7
Apparently, they’re going to digitally animate Paul Walker in this movie…   and they’re doing that in The Hunger Games movies for Philip Seymour Hoffman, too.  What a strange age we live in…

May 2015
The Avengers: The Age of Ultron
This should be fun – Ultron is a great character.

June 2015
Jurassic World
Just…stop.  Please.

The Fantastic Four
Well, the first two were awful, so this is actually worthy of a reboot.

July 2015
Ant Man
I’m a big fan of this character and I enjoy Paul Rudd, so this could be a good one.

August 2015
The Smurfs 3
This series ruined these kind of movies.

September 2015
Hotel Transylvania 2
Adam Sandler wants to suck your wallet!

November 2015
After The Smurfs, I just assume everything is terrible now.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2
Well, if Part 1 is good, maybe part 2 will also be good?  Too soon to comment on this one…

March 2016
Kung Fu Panda 3
Again, I keep missing the sequels…  who knew there was a second one.

Dec 2016
Avatar 2
I really hated the first one, so I’ll be avoiding this like the plague.

  1. I guess That Star Wars Episode 7 did not come up in my research because there is no release date at the time of this writing

  2. There’s an ANNIE remake on the way too… seems to be a hard knock life for original stories!
