Star Wars Rebels LOOKS Disney-riffic, FEELS like Clone Wars

Now that Star Wars: The Clone Wars is over on Cartoon Network, we’re getting Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD. The trailer isn’t giving us much, but Disney/Star Wars has dropped a bunch of "meet the characters" styled shorts, and they’re much more revealing.

There are several, but I’m going to concentrate on Ezra and Kanan. I saw Ezra first, and the still image of him got me worried. He’s got serious Disney Eyes. (Big, round, "trust me" inviting eyes.)

I looked at the guy and my brain went, "This kid looks like Aladdin. Also, it’s a kid." Then, I reminded myself that Asoka was a kid, and that worked out OK and, as it turns out, Ezra’s back story is interesting. So now, I’m adjusting to the fact that just because things look different than The Clone Wars doesn’t mean the tone will be that different.

And then there’s Kanan:

This guy looks like Han Solo wrapped in a Jedi skin… and that’s fine with me. Dare I say, this could be the Star Wars character that the fans have always wanted? It certainly feels that way.

Yeah, it may look like Disney, but it feels like Star Wars, and that’s a good thing. The only problem is, despite all of the marketing surrounding the show, we have to wait until the fall to get a look at whatever Star Wars Rebels will actually be as a show. Until then… fingers crossed, I guess.
