Daily GIF (Jan 31)

I doubt I’ll actually do this every day, but I do want to take a moment to point out how awesome animated GIFs are.  Sure, they don’t hit the bulls-eye every time, but they can be a lot of fun as well as mysterious.  I’ve never communicated with anyone who’s made an animated GIF except for the one time I made one.

Anyway, if you’re on the east coast, here’s your afternoon GIF – and if you’re on the west coast, well, then, GIF o the mornin’ to ya!  If you’re located somewhere in between or not in the continental United States, then I apologize as I have no idea what time it is by you.

That is awesome.  Also, really good camera work.

Downton Abbey Season Two (quick TV Review)

downton-abbeyWhew, they sure upped the drama with Season Two, didn’t they?  I guess a World War will do that.
When I briefly talked about Season One, I mentioned plot points that were telegraphed by a mile, and this season had that in spades.  Did anyone really think Thomas wouldn’t wind up working back at the house by the end of the season?  That Matthew would never walk again?  That Matthew would marry Lavinia?  That once Lavinia became ill, that she would live?  And so on.  And I haven’t seen any of season three yet, but jeez, stop picking on Bates, Downton writers!  Still, it’s a good show, and I maintain that the theme sounds a lot like the theme to The X-Files. Or maybe it’s just that they’re both in the same key and follow a similar chord structure.

I’m only seeing Season One of Downton Abbey on Netflix Instant, so I guess we’re out of luck for now.

Downton Abbey Season One (quick TV Review)

downton-abbeyI’m sure that Downton Abbey is one of those shows that everyone has already said about everything that could be uttered, but I just wanted to drop a few lines.  I love its epic reach in terms of both its stunning camera and location visuals and its large ensemble of awesome actors, but some story points either left me flat or were telegraphed by a mile, and I wasn’t a big fan of the mustache twirling maid and footman villains.  Still, I recommend it just so you can keep up with the Joneses, if nothing else, but really, anyone who is a fan of film making and performance will like this show even if they don’t necessarily dig everything about it.  That might sound like I don’t like the plot of the show, because I do, but I have a hard time articulating about season One, and I can’t help comparing it to the less ambitious Upstairs/Downstairs, right down to the radical chauffeur.  Downton Abbey is available on Netflix Instant.

Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope – Special Edition (quick movie review)

star-wars-special-editionOf the three Special Editions, I’d say Episode IV is the one where they went the most amok.  The new stuff just feels like filler, especially the Mos Eisley bumps.  I’m fine with the added Jabba the Hutt scene, even if it looks like crap – although admittedly the DVD version looks way better than it did in its theatrical release (I haven’t seen the Blu Ray version yet).  I’ve already talked about the  Han Shot First thing (as has everyone on earth), so I’ll let that lie.  The only welcome changes were the extra ships in the climactic battle scene, and they didn’t exactly thrill me, but they certainly didn’t bother me.  I say stick to the original.

The Recruit (movie review)

I saw The Recruit again this past weekend after not seeing it since the flick came to home video way back in… I dunno, 2004 or so. It should be noted that the original release was in January of 2003, and as you may have noticed this month, January is generally a dumping ground for crappy movies, and while The Recruit may not be worthy of enshrinement on the The Worst Movies Ever list, it certainly has its share of problems.

Gov Christie Didn’t like Pres Obama’s Inauguration Speech

chris-christie-2016As you know, President Obama has been sworn in for his second term as President of the United States.  Despite the Inauguration occurring on Martin Luther King Jr Day, most of us had to work and missed the festivities.  And it’s a good thing, too – Governor Christie didn’t enjoy the speech, so I’m sure that means it was a pinko commie manifesto that tarnishes this great country.  Let’s take a look. It’s so cold that…

The Brian Lehrer Show has come up with a way to make a game out of how cold it is here in the greater New York City area with the hash tag #ItsSoColdThat.  Here is my contribution:

Check out Stereo Telescope’s new album On and Running [music pick]

stereo-telescope

Boston’s Stereo Telescope (who I’ve written about before) have dropped their first full length album, and it rocks VERY HARD.  I’m sure Oprah thought she was all pimp with her book club, but On and Running is the first official CreativeJamie.com music pick!

Fake Words of Wisdom for Teenagers

In part, the following rant is my fault as per my own inability to read the title of the following piece, which is “Words for Teenagers” and not “Words of Wisdom for Teenagers,” and again, that’s my fault for not being able to read.  However, I do believe that the following is titled “Words for Teenagers” because they didn’t have enough room to print “Words of Wisdom for Teenagers” in the newspaper.
