Better Know Your Hitchcock: Psycho

psycho-movie-posterDr. Girlfriend and I are on a major Alfred Hitchcock kick, and we thought we’d take you along for the ride.  We’re going on a tour of some of his most famous films, a journey that’s sure to be filled with thrills, chills and other stuff that people thought would look good on a movie poster.  I’m not going to bother scoring or all out reviewing Hitchcock’s movies because they’re all great, all classics – this is more of an awareness campaign reminding you to check ’em out.  Today, we’re taking a look at Psycho. Who’s Dave Mustaine? And he said WHAT about Obama?

Who’s Dave Mustaine, you ask?  I actually know the answer to this – he’s the guitar player that got kicked out of Metallica during their early days, and then he started Megadeth, a band whose music has no lasting value whatsoever.  You might have seen his name in the news lately because he has a tendency to open his pie hole and say dumb things, but I’m here to tell you that he’s not worth listening to. Ice Cream Oreos – cookies and creme

ice-cream-oreo-cookies-n-creme.jpg

I presume that the inspiration for “Ice Cream Oreos – cookies and creme” comes from the popularity of combining oreos with ice cream as first done by Dairy Queen and now done by several fast food chains.  This ideas puzzles me because of that secondary title “cookies and creme.” Isn’t that what oreos are?  Maybe I’m thinking too much about this, but I do take cookies very seriously.

Signs for dogs

I’ve never seen a sign directed at a dog before…and I wonder why it starts off in dog language and ends in english…  Curious.

I love jukebox snobs… I guess

image

Jukeboxes sure have changed a lot in my lifetime.  Now, they’re digital touchscreens, which, given the state of contemporary technology, makes sense.  However, the fact that it constantly flashes an image reading “I love jukebox snobs”is confusing, and I have two problems with this:

      1. I’m not sure that a”jukebox snob” is an actual thing
      2. This seems like a missed opportunity; surely “jukebox jerk”is a better phrase

I’ve never been to Cafe Nordstrom, but from their menu, I can speculate that the food is either grown, prepared or served by pilgrims.  Who knew?

GOP wants Todd Akin out of Senate Race AND Constitutional Amendment Outlawing Abortion AND international skinny dipping

My bachelor’s degree might say cum laude on it (ladies*), but this doesn’t mean I’m especially intelligent.  I know this** because I don’t understand the GOP trying to yank Todd Akin out of a Senate race for saying stupid things about rape and pregnancy while simultaneously reaffirming their commitment to a Constitutional Amendment that outlaws abortion under any circumstances.  Also, skinny dipping is not a great idea if you’re a member of Congress…  well, they might have a handle on that one.

Wild Parrots in Ridgefield, NJ

wild-parrots

I am very excited to report that we have had our first wild parrot sighting!  (Specifically, we saw them in Ridgefield, NJ, right near the Bergen Turnpike.)  Wild parrots (Quaker Parrots or Monk Parakeets… or whatever they’re called) have been wandering around the New York City area for a long time now, but this is the first time we’ve actually seen them in person.  As you can see, they were hanging out with some other birds who were…  I don’t know, feeding or something.  Maybe they were ingesting some pebbles… don’t some birds eat a little bit of rock to aid in their digestion?  Pretty sure I read that in Swiss Family Robinson.  Anyway, seeing parrots chilling on the side of the road is extremely awesome – and yes, I know they have caused some trouble with power lines, but that’s life.
