Is TurtleGate over or just on hold?

leonardo-tmntIf you follow the site, then you already know that I’ve been complaining about this for a while now, and I’m hoping that this revelation means the tide is starting to turn in my favor.

The Hollywood Reporter published an article first citing that the Ninja Turtles movie “was set for release in December 2013. That date is being pushed to May 2014, according to sources,” which sounds like a simple change from a Christmas to a Summer release, but it goes on to say “Now it has halted work on its planned holiday movie for 2013, temporarily laying off preproduction staff and informing those prepping the film that the work stoppage is “indefinite,” according to sources. Another source close to the production says the movie has been pushed by ten weeks.”  What, exactly, does that mean?

So Michael Bay’s most recent attempt to turn me from a crazy person who is not dangerous to society to one who is seems to be on hold, and the appearance of the word ‘indefinite’ certainly makes it seem as though the project’s life is in danger.  Of course, without knowing exactly why Paramount shut it down means we can’t know if there are serious script issues (one can only assume that’s the issue since Michael Bay decided to depart from the source material so radically) or if the movie has other more easily fixable issues.  I’m just hoping Bay has been removed from the project and they’re starting fresh with a new script, but we’ll have to wait and see.
